1982 Blade Runner Star Rutger Hauer Dead

Actor Rutger Hauer, best known for playing role of Roy Batty in the 1982 “Blade Runner”, died on July 19 at the age of 75 in the Netherlands after a short illness.

The Rutger Hauer Starfish Association announced that the actor died on July 19 at his home after a short illness.

Hauer’s agent, Steve Kenis, confirmed the news and said the Hauer’s funeral was held Wednesday.

The legendary Dutch actor, most cherished performance came in a film that was throbbing flop on it original release. He portrayed the role of Roy Batty, the murderous leader of a gang of outlaw replicants, opposite Harrison Ford in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi movies “Blade Runner”.

The movies later became mostly influential cult favorite, and Batty proved to be Hauer’s most indelible role.

Most recently, he casted in a pair of 2005 films, “Sin City” as Cardinal Roark and as the corporate villain in Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins”.

Hauer’s roles included a terrorist in “Nighthawks” with Sylvester Stallone and portrated a menacing hitchhiker in the movie “The Hitcher”.

He has won a Golden Globe Award for best supporting-actor in 1988 for movie “Escape from Sobibor”.

His dedication to the work was appreciated by make filmmakers.
