Eugene Levy isn’t giving away much about the final season of Schitt’s Creek. • “There might be one or two surprises, but everything kind of ends the way I think it should end,” he told The National’s Andrew Chang. • On the show, Levy plays Johnny Rose, the father of the riches-to-rags family that finds themselves living in a motel in a small town called Schitt’s Creek. • The show was co-created by Levy and his son, Dan, who plays his on-screen son, David Rose. • Earlier this year, they made the choice to end the show, telling fans in a letter that season six would be the last — but saying goodbye after calling it quits wasn’t easy. • “There were a lot of tears when actors would finish their last scenes together,” Levy said of the final weeks of filming. “There would be ten minutes of hugging and lots of tears.” • He did drop a small hint about one of the very last scenes they shot in the much-loved Rosebud Motel. • “The last scene we did there was a very emotional scene where Johnny actually says ‘I think we’re going to miss this little place.’ And then, of course, tears started happening again, and then you’ve got to dry and re-take.” • The irony of it all is that Schitt’s Creek is having a moment right now. The show has exploded into an international success and the cast and crew have been snatching up awards and nominations, from the Emmys to MTV and the SAG awards. • “It’s really in a nice hotspot,” Levy says. “We’re going out on that high — getting out when the going is good is the best way to go.” • You can see the full interview with Eugene Levy Sunday night on The National.
